Diana Mehrez - Floor is Lava
This photo is part of a series that explores the dynamic tension between people and the spaces they inhabit, where the large, man-made spaces, characterized by their repetitive shapes and patterns, encounter a disruption as individuals, much smaller in size, navigate and occupy there spaces. This shot depicts the backstage of architectural construction, the aspect of architecture which is less known to its occupants. Site workers make their way around scaffolding like it's second nature to them. In what I would qualify as “vertical living”, they create a particular relationship to the object they are building: not only do they know it quite intimately and in all dimensions, but their workspace also doubles as their temporary shelter, merging work hours with daily life.
